Forensic breakthrough on text messages

A new technique for the forensic analysis of text messages may soon be used in court, according to research to be released on Monday at the BA Festival of Science in Liverpool. The technique, which can also be applied to e-mails, chatroom conversations and other electronic messages, makes it possible to determine the likelihood that two messages were written by the same person.

Integrity Pays Dividends

Simons, a professor at Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration, surveyed employees at 76 hotels. He found that hotels where workers say their bosses keep their word and do what they say they'll do turned a higher profit than those where workers are leery about their bosses' integrity.

Private Equity Investors Are Concerned About Fraud

According to a new study by BDO Consulting, LLP, thirty-seven percent of top executives at leading U.S. private equity firms have been exposed to corporate fraud through their investments and 40% of these investors say the impact on their investment return was significant. Fifty-nine percent of those exposed have faced instances of fraud worth $1 million or more. Nearly one third (29%) would be willing to pay a higher price (a median of five percent more) for a company that had a comprehensive anti-fraud program in place.
